First-View art gallery is situated on the National Trust Stourhead property but is independently owned and operated by Jane Parfitt in premises that were formerly used as part of a shop and store. The extensive renovation work exposed the original pine trusses which have been sensitively incorporated into the design. Entrance to The Gallery is free.		Stourhead is one of the busiest properties of the National Trust and is situated near the A303, on the Wiltshire side of the border with Somerset and Dorset. A full description of the property may be found by clicking the link above. Stourhead House was formerly the home of the Hoare family and was given to the Trust in 1946. The house is of Palladian style and is open from March through October. The gardens are a spectacular example of the English Landscape Garden and are worth visiting at any time of the year as it is rightfully called "The garden for all seasons". In winter months dogs may be taken into the garden on short leads.
The First-View gallery is in the Spread Eagle Courtyard facing the famous Spread Eagle Inn. It is split into two separate areas by a walkway that visitors pass through to get from the Visitor Reception to the Garden. These are called "The Main Gallery" and the "The Archway Gallery", opened in October 2002 and June 2002 respectively. Our aim is to to show an eclectic collection of work from artists who, on the whole, live or originate from the Wessex area. Click the "Gallery" button to see some photographs of The Gallery and the type of work exhibited. In addition to our "Home" gallery at Stourhead we also organise exhibitions at other venues. Details may be seen by clicking on the "Exhibitions" button above. Artists are welcome, by appointment, to visit the Gallery and discuss the possibilities of their work being exhibited.
